Physical exercises in water have a health-improving effect on the person. In water, a person experiences mechanical pressure of water, which evenly spreads from all sides to the surface of the body. While pressing on the chest, it helps to increase the depth of breathing. Deep breathing has a positive effect on pulmonary diseases. The horizontal position of the body and the pressure of water facilitate peripheral blood circulation, creates easier conditions for the heart to work. As a result of overcoming loads in the process of exercise therapy in the water, the heart acquires the ability to work more economically, which improves the activity of the circulatory system. Water massages the human body, has a beneficial effect on the nervous system, strengthens and cleanses the skin. The skin becomes elastic, and person acquires a balanced character, good appetite, sound sleep, etc.

Deep breathing, active movements in the water, facilitated work of the heart increase blood flow to all parts of the body. Exercising in water and swimming reduces postural disorders, harmoniously develop all muscle groups.

Exercises in water are the best way to improve general physical and mental state. It is an effective mean of maintaining tonus for people with poor health and disabilities.

Exercise therapy in water increases the efficiency of all body systems, improves endurance, strength and elasticity of muscles, agility, stability, speed and coordination of movements, and also:

  • helps to lose excess weight;
  • stimulates a healthy lifestyle;
  • relieves stress;
  • improves overall physical and mental state.

For patients with diseases and consequences of back injuries, trainings are conducted under the supervision of an exercise therapy instructor.

A healthy back is not a dream, but a reality, if a person is not lazy to take care after it. Exercises in the water for the spine provide an opportunity to start the work of the back muscles with a minimum load. In water, the force of gravity does not affect the spine, which frees it from hardships that accompany it on the firm ground. This feature allows a number of medical training for osteochondrosis, scoliosis, hernia and to recover from spinal surgery.

The benefits of water exercises for the spine

Therapeutic water gymnastics is widespread due to its effectiveness. The main advantage of such exercises for the spine is that, regardless of physical activity, the force of exposure to it is minimal. This is due to the fact that when immersed in water, the human body becomes “weightless.” However, the liquid also has a counteraction, which increases as the pace and amplitude of movements increase. The essence of therapeutic exercises in the water for the spine is known, and its effectiveness is proven.

Fast actions are held back by water, while slow actions do not cause resistance. In addition, to maintain balance, deep autochthonous muscles are getting activated, which are not involved in normal movement, and therefore are poorly developed. For this reason, anyone can perform such exercises, even with the presence of the musculoskeletal system problems. Therapeutic exercises have a positive effect not only on the muscles and spine, but also the whole body:

  • Increased blood circulation takes place.
  • Breathing becomes fuller, deeper, thereby increasing the vital volume of the lungs.
  • The body is getting hardened; resistance to infections is also getting increased, and
  • The overall emotional state improves.

Indications for the use of hydrotherapeutic procedures

Water therapeutic exercises are capable of stopping the development of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, i.e. hydrokinesitherapy. In addition, such exercises have a beneficial effect on the restoration of motor functions and mobility of the spine and increase muscle tone. There is a huge variety of techniques designed to solve problems with the musculoskeletal system. They are indicates with the following diseases and conditions of the spine:

  • Kyphosis.
  • Osteochondrosis.
  • Scoliosis.
  • Intervertebral hernia.
  • Injuries.
  • Postoperative rehabilitation.

Types of water exercises that are good for the spine

Water gives a number of benefits that make it possible to conduct exercises aimed at improving the spine, strengthening the back muscles, reducing pain, and restoring motor functions. Depending on the specifics of the disease, types of medical classes are also being offered. The differences of exercises lie in their focus on a specific section of the spine, group of muscles, and intensity of the strength loading. They include as follows:

  • Stretching of the spine,
  • Strengthening the muscle frame,
  • Intervertebral hernia exercises,
  • Exercises after the surgical intervention.

Physical therapy improves the body’s adaptive capabilities and increases the level of resistance to stress due to the production of certain hormones, improves the overall emotional background!
